Suzuki only decided the night before the show opened to reveal its new Bandit 1250 GT in Birmingham.
The machine, which will go on sale as a complete bike, is basically a Bandit 1250S, but with a selection of options aimed at turning the all-rounder into a proper touring bike.
By adding a full fairing, Suzuki has given the Bandit much improved wind protection for long-distance riding, while panniers and a topbox mean it’s gained the luggage capacity to rival purpose-designed touring bikes.
More information is expected soon.

Grunt. Shove. Push. Usable Power. Keep your horsepower high-output statistics, because what the new Suzuki Bandit 1250S has in spades is torque. A maximum 79 lb.ft of it achieved at a mere 3700rpm… read that again please then repeat after me, “Maximum torque at 3700RPM.” That means you have you choice of gears off the line, which is good because testing that point I’m out on a ride… one handed.

I’d never have gotten away with this on the previous Bandit 1200S. True, the engine was a monument to flexibility and longevity, with a lineage reaching back to the 1980 GS1100, but it put out 67 lb-ft at a comparatively lofty 6500rpm on the dial. Sure, you could pull off the line in third gear but it would lug. This new liquid cooled 1250 plant? Lugging need not apply.

Part of the reason behind riding one handed is I’m out with the Hot Chicks, a local women’s ride group – banish the dirty thought from your mind. Men are welcome to join the “Hot Chicks” rides, but they are required to stay to the rear to the girls may ride un-harassed by our testorstionics. Unfortunately being snugged in behind the tail of the slow group, whose pace is downright leisurely, has lead me to behavior I can only dub, “bloke’ish”. Namely seeing how far I can ride one-handed for the entertainment value.
